Miss St. Patrick & Miss Irish Rose
Seven girls competed for the titles
of Miss St. Patrick and Miss Irish Rose at the annual St Patrick’s Day
celebration sponsored by the Irish American Club of Southern Minnesota held at
Waseca on March 13. The new queens represent the Irish American community in
parades, and community events during the year throughout Southern Minnesota.
Sheila Jewison, daughter of Mike and
Carol (Eustice) Jewison was selected Miss St. Patrick. She is a junior at
Janesville High School. Sheila is involved in band, choir, Jazz band, Show
Choir, school musical productions, church youth group, 4-H and has served as 4-H
ambassador. Sheila sang and played a soprano saxophone in the talent
competition. Sheila’s parents who descend from the Connor, Cahill and Eustice
families have Irish roots in County Tipperary and Ballymahon, County Longford.
Jennifer Harguth, daughter of Greg
and Sue Harguth was named Miss Irish Rose. She is a junior at Waseca High School
where she has been active in Spanish Club, volleyball, softball, hockey
statistics, Select Choir, State Street Choir, church choir, FFA, 4-H, and has
served as 4-H ambassador. Jennifer’s Irish family roots include the Eustice,
Ryan and Cahill families from the counties of Longford and Tipperary.
Other queen candidates included Kathryn Casey, Meghan Conway, Jamie Rose,
Shannon Weske and Sara Bussert.
