Eustace Families of Kilmihil Parish,County Clare

KILMIHIL EUSTACE RECORDS – 1855 to present

Kilmihil Generation I:
Robert Eustace Sr.
and Elizabeth Keane from Cahermurphy were married about 1841 and had children which included: Robert  Jr.* born about 1847; Anne, baptized July 14, 1850; Catherine, baptized April 9, 1853; Honor, baptized August 4, 1855; Thomas baptized January 31, 1858; and James Joseph baptized May 16, 1860.  James Joseph Eustace married Johanna Connery about 1877 and that they emigrated to the USA. They first settled at Rome, Oneida County, New York (1878), went to Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York (1880), then to Reno (Sugarcreek), Pennsylvania (1882-1890) and eventually settled in Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania. Kilmihil Generation II:

James Joseph Eustace, son of Robert Eustace and Mary Keane (Kane) was born August 10, 1853 in County Clare and died March 9, 1927 at Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania. He married Johanna Connery in 1877. She was the daughter of Michael Connery and Bridget McDonald and was born March 17, 1851 at Rome, Oneida County, New York and died March 9, 1927 at Oil City, Pennsylvania.

James Joseph and Johanna (Connery) Eustace first settled at Rome, Oneida County, New York (1878), went to Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York (1880), then to Reno (Sugarcreek), Pennsylvania (1882-1890) and eventually settled in Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania.

Family of James Joseph Eustace and Johanna Connery:

1). Mary Ann Eustace, born November 5, 1878, Rome, New York. She married John W. McDonald on January 2, 1898 at Jamestown, New York and died November 25, 1951 in Cornplanter Township, Oil City, Pennsylvania;
2). John Alphonsus Eustace, born August 2, 1880 at Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York and died January 25, 1940 in Buffalo, New York. He married Rose E. Sitting.
3). Bridget Johanna Eustace, born 13 July 1882 at Reno, Pennsylvania and died April 25, 1970 in Oil City, Pennsylvania. She married Charles Daniel McDonald on May 29, 1916 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oil City, Pennsylvania.
4). James Joseph Eustace, born September 7, 1884 and died in a train crash during October 1917. James Joseph Eustace married Ruth Adams.
5). Thomas Francis Eustace, born May 2, 1886 at Reno, Pennsylvania and died September 12, 1967 at Erie, Pennsylvania. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic Priest in 1917.
6). Alice Theresa Eustace, born July 24, 1888 and died November 21, 1972 at Warren Trumbull County, Ohio. She married Charles LaVerne Deemer.
7). Robert Edward Eustace, born June 27, 1890 in Reno, Pennsylvania and died January 3, 1981 in St Joseph's Hospital, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. He married Theresa Mary Bell.
8). Grace Elizabeth Eustace, born August 1, 1892, died July 4, 1984 in Oil City, Pennsylvania. She married Frank Rufus Crouch.

Corry from Lisroe. Michael immigrated to the US in 1900 and settled in New Haven, CT.  He died there in 1965.  Patrick was baptized in 1888 immigrated to the US in 1910.  He fought in WWI with the 4th Division where he was killed in action in France in 1918.  He had no issue.

Patrick Eustace 1888-1918

Richard was baptized in 1889.  He immigrated to the US where he settled in the Bronx, NY.  He married Margaret Smith and they had three children.  Maria was baptized in 1890.  She immigrated to New Haven, CT and was married to Pat Kelleher.  They had three children.  Margaret was born about 1891.  She remained in Ireland and married Thomas Hehir.  They had two children.   (Timothy) Daniel was born about 1892.  He also remained in Ireland where he married Nora Corry and had seven children.  He died in 1986.  John was born about 1894.  He immigrated to the Bronx, NY in 1923.  According to a 1923 Ellis Island record, John Eustace who was born in about 1896 and he left Kilmaley to visit his brother Richard on East 187th Street in New York City.  John Eustace married Ellen O’Connor and they had two children.  John died in 1989.   Today, John’s son Robert Eustace is living in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Michael and Honora Eustace’s remaining children were: Bridget who was born about 1897 and she married John Reidy.  They had no issue.  Bridget died in 1987.   Another daughter, Catherine was born about 1900.  She remained in Ireland where she married Patrick Murphy and they had a family of eight.  Catherine died in 1993.  According to the 1901 Census, this Eustace family still lived in Furroor, Kilmaley Parish.

The second son of Michael and Catherine Eustace was John Eustace born about 1850.  He married Ellen Thompson on February 7, 1873.  Ellen was from Kilmihil.  John and Ellen Eustace had a son, Patrick who was baptized in Kilmihil on February 2, 1874.  Their other children included:  John baptized in 1879, another Patrick born about 1885, Thomas baptized in 1887 and George baptized in 1889.  According to the Clare 1901 Census, John’s widow Ellen, and her family lived in Furroor, Kilmaley Parish.

The third son of Michael and Catherine Eustace was Patrick Eustace who was born about 1852.  He had six children and owned the local blacksmith shop.  A daughter Bridget Eustace was married to Daniel Crowley from Kilofin on March 1, 1870. 

In 1901 one of the Kilmaley Eustaces, Michael Eustace age 24, is living in Reanagishagh, parish of Kilmaley and Thomas Eustace, age 11, is living in Lisroe, Parish of Kilmaley.

The 1907-1922 Lisroe National School Directories in Kilmaley parish list the following students there:

Patrick Eustace – June 15, 1919, father is a farmer.

Catherine Eustace - June 15, 1920, father is a farmer.

Charlie Eustace - May 8, 1922, father is a farmer.

Dan Eustace - May 8, 1922, father is a farmer.

In the Index for Biographical Notices 1935-1986, the death on May 16, 1986, of Daniel Eustace from Furroor, Kilmaley is noted.  In May of 2006, Michael Eustace died.  He was the jeweler in Kilrush and descended from the Kilmaley family.  His parents were Michael and Mary Eustace from Kilmaley.
