Christopher Eustace, carman (Hackney car proprietor & driver or jarvey) was born in Dublin about 1870.

He married Anne (or Mary Anne) Farrell about 1887.

In 1888, Christopher and Ann Eustace lived  at 27 Cork Street, in 1894 at 28 Cooke Street, in 1895,1903 and 1911

at 4 Lower Exchange Street and in 1899 at 1 Essex Gate.

They were the parents of the following children:

Christopher Eustace, son of Christopher Eustace and Anne Farrell, was born 1892 worked as a horse and cab driver

(also known as a Jarvey) based outside the Clarence Hotel now owned by U2. Today the Clarence Hotel is a popular

and expensive tourist attraction. Christopher married Mary Byefield on _______ at ________. Mary owned a small

shop near the entrance to the oldest pub in Ireland, the famous Brazen Head which is now a part of the area known as

The Liberties located approximately west of Aungier Street and south of the Liffey River in the old quarter of Dublin.

The family was living on Bridge Street Hill in Dublin’s city centre in 1939.  Christopher and Mary Eustace were

the parents of (X) children; Robert Leonard, born Sept 4, 1939; others??????

 

John Eustace, born in County Dublin between 1862 and 1866, was a harness maker and lived at 15/16 Findlater Place,

Mountjoy in Dublin (1901 and 1911). He  married Margaret Megan about 1896. She was born about 1873 in

County Dublin. John and Margaret were Roman Catholic and both could read and write. They had three sons

all born in the city of Dublin; John, born July 8, 1898 , William, born 1899, and James, born 1900. Margaret Megan was alive in 1901, age 28 but died between 1901 and 1911. John and Margaret were living at 51 Fingall Street, South City in 1898, when their son John was born.

John Eustace, son of Michael Eustace, occupation sheet metal worker, was born in Dublin city about 1875. John Eustace worked as an iron monger in Dublin. He married Mary Ellen _________ and they were the parents of William, born about 1895 and Michael born about 1905. The 1911 census tells us that John was Roman Catholic, could read and write and was a widower living at 27 Church Street, Inn’s Quay in Dublin city centre. Also in the household were the following:

Michael Eustace was born in the city of Dublin about 1840/41. He was a sheet metal worker and married Roseanne Quigley around 1870. Michael and Rose Eustace lived on, or in the vicinity of Church Street for most of their lives.

They were the parents of at least seven children.

Michael Eustace was born about 1841.

Rose Eustace’s maiden name was Quigley, she was born about 1846; Many of Michael and Roseanne’s children were not named prior to civil birth registration which was somewhat unusual.

  • Joseph Eustace, son of Michael Eustace, iron worker and Rose Quigley of 159 Church Street, (59 Mullen Court off Church Street) was baptized 23 July 1871 at St. Paul's, Arran Quay, Dublin; Joseph Eustace was born 23 July 1871 at Synge Hospital, Britain Street; no name recorded at civil registration.

  • Michael Eustace, Smith, and Rose Eustace, formerly Quigley of 4 Church Street, Dublin, were the parents of a son born 4 July 1874 at Rotunda Hospital, Britain Street, no name recorded at registration (probably John, age 27 in 1901).

Richard Eustace, son of Alek Eustace, farmer, was born in County Kildare (1911 census, but County Dublin in 1901 census) about 1856. He was a general labourer unemployed in 1911. He could read and write and spoke English. On 28 February 1892, he married Ellen Farrell, full age, spinster, daughter of James Farrell, deceased, Derby Keeper, at the Roman Catholic Chapel of Caist Kevin. Richard was living on Clanbrassil Street, Wood Quay, Dublin at the time of his marriage in 1892, and he and Ellen were living there in 1901 and at least until 1911.

Rowland Eustace was born in Dublin city about 1857. He was the son of Christopher Thomas Eustace, Clerk and was living
at Stoke Cottages, Bray, County Wicklow, of Rathdown, when he married Eleanor Louise Warren, full age spinster, also
living at Stoke Cottages, Bray, County Wicklow, daughter of Benjamin Warren on 17th October 1889. Rowland was
Roman Catholic and Eleanor was Church of Ireland.  In 1911, Roland's occupation is listed as Grain clerk. Eleanor
worked as a laundress in 1901 and 1911. They apparently had no children.

William Eustace was born in Dublin city about 1895. He was the son of John and Mary Ellen (_____) Eustace who lived at 27 Church Street. He was a baker by trade and became an active trade unionist and founder member of the Workers Union of Ireland (WUI) with the famous Liverpool Trade Union activist James Larkin. William Eustace became heavily involved in the labour union movement at an early age and was involved in the "Struggle of 1913" and the “great lockout of 1913” and continued to be active through the 1940's.  William Eustace is described as "Billy" Eustace, assistant to Sean Nugent, branch secretary of the Worker's Union of Ireland in the book James Larkin: Lion of the Fold (1998) in comments by Breda Cardiff who went to work for Larkin in July 1944. William Eustace moved the family to Emmet Road in the 1930’s within sight of the famous Kilmainham Jail. He married Claire Scally and died ________ in Dublin. He was survived by his two daughters Phyllis and Maura Eustace who still live in the same house on Emmet Road. William’s son Michael Eustace married and Marie Mahon from Dublin’s centre city (Church Street). Marie Mahon was from Fairview on Dublin’s North Side.
