The eldest child in our section
was Susan (Suzy) and when the mother died it appears Suzy took
over and bossed the whole outfit. She was a great worker and she
claimed to be the owner as far as I could make out. I just
cannot give the exact sequence of ages but then came James,
Charlotte, Patrick, Andrew, Isobel and Maggie.
Andrew was the youngest and he
joined the RIC. Pat and Suzy remained on the farm with Suzy as
very much the boss so much so that when Pat had the courage to
marry a local girl Suzy would not allow her into the old
homestead and she hiked off to USA leaving a lovely baby girl
Mary Kate. Pat's wife never returned but that is Irish life. Not
until Suzy died did Mary Kate come to live with her father."
