Katherine “Kate” Eustace

Katherine “Kate” Eustace was born 16 October 1875 in Multyfarnham Parish and baptized 21 October; her sponsors were Richard Ferrall and Mary Fennam. She came to the US at age 24 years, arriving at Ellis Island on 15 September 1900 on board the SS Lucania that sailed from Queenstown (Cobh) Ireland.  She traveled with her brother Edward Joseph Eustace who was returning to the US for a second time.  The destination for both was listed as “127 Day St., New Haven, Conn.”  Although no record has been found, it is known that she returned to Ireland about 1908 and remained about eight years.  Her return trip was from Queenstown on board the SS Orduna which arrived at Ellis Island on 16 October 1916.  The ship’s records indicated her last residence in Ireland was “Mullingar with her sister Mrs. Bartle McLoughlin” and her destination was “Bro(ther), Edward J. Eustace, 556 Whintrop St., New Haven, Conn.”  The ship’s record is the only indication that Kate’s older sister Mary (Eustace) McLoughlin was married and probably alive as of October 1916 residing in Mullingar.

In 1929 Katherine married Thomas F. Conniff in New Haven, Connecticut.   There were no children as a result of this marriage, however, Thomas was previously married to a Katherine R. in 1896 and they had a son Walter F. Conniff on 16 September 1899 in New Haven, CT. Thomas died 4 March 1963 in New Haven and Kate died on 11 February 1971 in Hamden, CT. Both are buried at St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, CT near the grave of her sister Marcella Marie (Eustace) McKee and the graves of her brothers Edward Joseph and William.
